John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions with his pop-folk songs, many of which were based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. is a New Mexican born artist and songwriter who fell in love with Colorado. Denver's most popular songs about his home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the director of this hall of fame, said: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado as John Denver." Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. He is now Colorado's international image. Through my travels I've had the pleasure of meeting individuals from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell people you're from Colorado, the first words they say are Oh John Denver. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff created the track with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver was introduced to an earlier version it was clear that the track could become a hit single. Following the performance at Washington D.C. to a massive crowd, Denver released the song a couple of days later.
